It’s My Birthday, and I’ll hike if I want to!

April 24, 2023

Nothing like celebrating your birthday by going on a hike! Because, why not? I’m grateful to have a (mostly) pain free functioning body that can still climb mountains, bike miles and touch my toes. Since hitting my fifties, of which I am half way through, I find peace in spending time out doors. It replenishes my soul.

Our plans were to go hike up in the Adirondacks but with mud season in full bloom and the recent additional rain, we opted for dryer land. Heading towards western MA, Anne had found Race Brook Falls Trail located in Sheffield. The weather was cloudy with peeks of sun poking through the clouds. The trail was fairly dry, rocky and a little steep at times.

During our whole hike you could hear running water, either from a brook or gushing waterfall, thanks to the rain from the previous day. We made stops at three waterfalls and one overlook. We didn’t have time to go to the summit of Mount Everett, as I needed to be home for the birthday dinner my hubby was making me.

Waterfall stop #1. There’s a trail to the right coming off the main trail that takes you down to it.

Anne searching for a way to get across the brook. The current was too strong and there wasn’t a safe way across.

Waterfall #2 was raging from the recent rain!

Third waterfall stop of the day.

We stopped at the outlook on our way back from the third waterfall to enjoy a delicious birthday cupcake that Anne managed to smuggle into her backpack without it getting crushed. Overall, it was a great way to celebrate the day!
